hissing battery

i just got my optima red top in the mail and i wasn't sure if it was fully charged so before i put it in i hooked it up the my charger and after about 5 minutes a heard a very light hissing sound and i immediately disconnected it! i think i over charged it!!!!!!! its fine now and its in the car and i drove around for about 20 minutes with it in...do you think that battery is ok? i dont want to cause any damage!

well it was hooked up to just the charger not to car. and at first it was fine and then it started hissing as it got closer to around 2 amps
my charger charges at 6 amps and then goes to 0 as the battery reaches full charge

It will be fine I have had that happen to me on numerous occasions with regular lead acid batteies and im guessing the optima is similar

cool ya thats what i figured! i just didnt want to hurt to battery and not be getting full power out of it all the time therefor not getting peak performance from me car.....is that true?

As long as your running voltage your fine.. If your voltage drops then you will lose a little power, like 5hp, but that is normally a grounding issue as the alternator supplies the car with voltage and amperage while the engine is runing.. The battery only "Stores" the charge for large spontanious drains like a sub hit or starting the car..

yea its at like 14.2 volts
