HID/Projection retrofit on 04-05 WRX.

Hey guys, i ran accross a thread on Nasioc about retrofitting a projector housing into our stock headlight assemblies and using it in conjunction with HID bulbs. It looks pretty sweet. Apparently it costs about $1000 or so for the entire project. I'm considering doing it. Here's a link for a finished product:

And here's a link for the thread. Let me know what you guys think.

The idea is cool but spending a $1000.00 bucks to do this is crazy IMO. Just put HID's in your headlights you have and trust me you will be very happy with them.

The only problem with that is when you put the HID bulb in halogen projectors the light is all over the place and not very focused/directed. A friend of mine has an 03 Sedan with an HID kit and I just don't like the effect. Now my 04 TL had projectors/HIDs and it was a very sweet setup indeed. It's something I wouldn't mind duplicating on my rex. Now If I actually get around to doing this, i'll buy an extra set of headlight assemblies to play around with. Just in case I ever need to return the car to stock.

I have HID's and I don't feel like they are all over the place like you said, there not as direct as projectors. I think the projectors limit the HID light giving you less light, this is just my opinion

Well that might be the case that you get less overall light, however I think it's a much cleaner look when you use the projectors. Another thing I'm concerned about is the police. Here in Cali if I simply install HID bulbs into projector housings it looks more like a modded car and i'll be more apt to be pulled over, however if they are installed into projector housings it looks more oem, thus resulting a lower chance of getting hassled.

I like the look of the projector housings in the assembly anyways, I dont think I would do it anytime soon becuase there are lots of things I could do to my car with the $1000 spent on this mod but to finishout the car I think it is in the works.

I agree that $1000 is a pretty penny to pay for a complete setup. But for the DIY'er how does $369 sound? Here'a a complete kit from www.hidplanet.com that includes the projector housings, ballasts, bulbs, covers, and mounts. Everything you need for the project. Now of course you'd have to install it yourself but they have a great message board there that provides support for the project.
