Headlight Restoration, The Best Formula Yet!
Every car I've owned that had plastic headlight lenses has done one of three things, 1. Become cloudy 2. Became yellow 3. Became rough with a porous white texture. I've tried everything from rubbing compound, sanding and commercially available products such as PlastX. None of which returned them to like new quality. While searching around on the internet for my next product purchase I ran into a thread on autogeek.com and found a process that truly makes it look showroom new. This is the process; Wet Sand using P500 going up and down, P1000 side to side, P2000 up and down, use polishing compound in circular strokes. Wash and clean with alcohol or alcohol based glass cleaner. And the secret formula that you can get at any hardware store is Minwax indoor/outdoor Helmsman spar urethane clear gloss. (full name on green can) Comes in a 32 oz can and 1 can of low odor mineral spirits. Mix them in a 1 to 1 ratio. (You'll only need an ounce or two for two headlights) Apply to headlights side to side strokes with half of a blue disposable shop rag (paper towel) folded into about a 1.5 inch square. Sounds funny but works much better than a brush or sponge. Allow ample time to dry. You will instantly see results upon applying the urethane cote. They say it will last for approx. 3 years before doing it again. I did it in 30 min and so easy my 4 year old could do it. They are crystal clear and much less glare given off by my HID's.
