Factory side-skirt

I was wondering if anyone can give me some information of either removing or painting the stock black side skirt piece of my 02 WRX? I have seen peoples WRX's with that stock piece the same color as the car, i was wondering how to go about doing that. Do they just take that black piece off, or does it have to be painted?

Subaru sells a painted piece. You could also buy them elsewhere cheaper. You could also buy side skirts from a kit, say like chargespeed. The cheaper route seems to be to paint them. Look under the how-to forum, there is some info. on this there. You can DIY or have them painted pretty cheap. Hope this helps.

You can buy them in white, silver, and blue. If you have another color, they are easy enough to paint. I painted mine myself. I sanded them smooth and painted them with plenty of flex agent.

thanx guys, that helps me out alot

P.S. do you guys know anymore cheap mods i could do to my WRX, im a senior in high school and trying to save for college so i dont exactly have tons of money to work with, the only reason i could afford a WRX is ### i work at a Subaru place and the owner really likes me, i got mine for only 15,000 when it was worth about 20,000+, so if you guys know some really cheap performance or exterior mods i could do i would really appreciate it

Intake Resonator (silencer) removal
Clear out headlights (remove the orange - if you're into that sort of thing)
Debadge (diddo if you're into that sort of thing)
Gut the uppipe (if you're not afraid of cancer and voiding warranties)
Painting the brake calipers
Performance fluids (tranny, diff, motor, brakefluid)
... can't think of anything else off the top of my head

Congrats on the WRX... don't wreck it

Reflash is like $400 if you can afford it. And ditto on the gutting the uppipe thing. It is dangerous.

hey thanks alot for the ideas guys, i was thinking about doing the headlight mod where you paint the inside of it black. What is this mod your talking about where you remove the orange? I've heard about it but i dont really know much about it. I think i'll pass on messing with the upipe, sounds pretty illegal, i dont need to cops on me anymore than they already are. They dont seem to be a fan of the big 4.5" Blitz exhaust, i dont know why.....

DO NOT gut your stock uppipe. Aftermarket uppipes can be had for less than $200. The very serious risk to your health (cats contain asbestos) is not worth it. And, if you are not very thourough in your gutting, and leave even tiny particles in the uppipe, they can make their way into your turbo and ruin it.

The clearing out your lenses is removing one, two, or all three of the orangle plastic pieces on your headlight. They will be clear like the rest of the light. You will have to buy replacement orange tinted bulbs to stay legal though at like AutoZone or something.

Here's a hot-to for the 04/05's
