Hey Everyone ! Looking for some help ... I joined the USAF ( lol no comments please ) and I am leaving for Basic in January. Which means I dont get to drive my WRX for over six months Which brings me to my issue : What should I do with my car? If anyone has any tips or information that'll help , please let me know !!
LoL Yea .. I figured the garage part .. but what about like changing fluids, Paint protection , Puttin it up on blocks , all that stuff .. Keep the ideas coming !
You could always buy one of those bubble things that you can park your car into and it runs an air pump, to keep the bubble inflated around your car, then you dont have to worry about anything touching it. I've seen them for harley's and belive they make them for cars.

Don't know about puttin it on blocks, but for the changing of the fluids, friends or fam to either do it or bring it to a mechanic? Paint protection you can give it a real good wax job and put a car cover over it.
how long is basic now? But in any case ask your parents or girlfriend to start the car once every two weeks and you'll be fine...
Wondering why no comments about the AF though...
well we just got back from a 14 month deployment in iraq and i left the wrx at my parents house underneath a car port. my parents were real awesome about it, they drove once a week for me, just to work and back. they changed the oil every 3 months, and turned it on atleast twice a week. oh yea and washed it for me occasionaly. yes, they are awesome.
one of my friends left his truck in a storage unit, it was there the entire time and he had it on jackstands and put fuel stabiliser in the gas tank and got a tune up after he got back......i don't know how the air force is about u guys getting storage units. but for us in the army we have to pay out of pocket for it during the deployment and when we get back we will get reimbursed. so he got all his money back for storage fees. just make sure u keep the receipt. oh yea his insurance was alot cheaper for it being in storage also.
hope this gives some ideas.
oh yea the car on jacks is so u wont have bald spots on your tires

oops, the second situation might not apply to u b/c you're not in the service yet, therefore u dont have orders authorising storage. u can still store it and just pay out of pocket.

I would give somebody I trust my keys and ask them to start it for me and possibly take it for a little ride every other week or so, put a nice fresh coat of wax on it right before storing it, and if I had an extra couple hundred bucks to spend, I might even get a nice car cover and set of these: http://www.raceramps.com/store/shopexd.asp?id=65. Also, I read somewhere that it's not good to let your gas tank get more than half empty because condensation can build up on the inner walls of your tank and cause a little water to get in your gas, so I might top off the tank before storing it too. On the flip side, it's also not good to let gas sit in a tank for extended periods of time either because it eventually gets "stale," so to speak. If you have somebody who can get the juices flowing every once in a while, that won't be a problem. Oh, and don't forget to change the oil when you safely return!
oh yea, another friend of mine added 2 bottles of fuel stabiliser and had the gas tank completely full and it started on first crank, make sure u disconnect the battery also.

i work as a boat mechanic and all through the entire months of october november and december we winterize and store boats. First stibilize the fuel, second make sure you have the proper amount of antifreeze in the cooling system, third run the engine for around 10 miniutes to ensure the stabilized fuel runs and mixes through the entire fuel system, last (make sure the car is in the place you want it stored) get a bottle of Fogging storage oil and disconnect a vacuum line in the manifold somewhere and spray the fogging oil into the manifold until the engine stalls or white smoke starts coming out of the exhaust and shut it off, put a cover over it and leave it. Thats it, that way noone has to drive it and it can just sit there until you get back. Just make sure when you get back run the engine for a good 10 minutes or until the white smoke is gone.
