2006 sti oem lights

IM new to all this subaru i am a ex owner of a EK civic and know my way around a honda i upgraded to a subaru sti iv been wanting for a while recently my passenger light went out and i called around its expensive for just a bulb that being said i dont know if its the light bulb or ballast were is the ballast located iv heard i have to take the bumper off just to get to the ballast is this right? is it best to replace it or just buy a new HID kit online replace them both i know a place local to pick up a kit for about a quarter what just a one bulb cost for the oem lights i need help knowing how to remove stock bulbs and ballast anyone who can help thanks i have a 2006 STI if that changes anything im still learning alot about subbies

Well the bulbs are not to pricey i think i spent 4-8 bucks for two, its always good to just replace them both at the same time. and all you need to do is go in ## trunk and u will see a plastic rivet at the trunk lip. pop that and pull the trunk lining back and u will see the housing. twist off what ever light it is and you will be able to change it.hope this helps.

will a normal headlight bulb work fine that being a oem HID kit for STI il go to autozone and see which bulb fits my car and see if it shines thanks alot

I believe the bulb you need if its the low beam is a Phillips ds2. When you take it out it should have a part number on it. As with any other bulb, don't touch the glass part. You should replace both at the same time. Before you buy bulbs you should try switching them around to confirm it is not the ballast. If it is the ballast then you can find the manufacturer and part number on it. Im not sure which ones they are but they are probably oe for many different vehicles and can be found used for cheap on ebay.

The swap is a perfect idea to narrow down.
Also, I would make sure to replace with the correct HID bulb
