Won't start...sometimes.

2002 WRX wagon. 115K. Stock. Cold fuel leak fixed. Recent fuel pump replacement. Cranks but won't start, intermittently, when warm. Fuel pump a stock replacement, not high flow. I pulled hose from filter outlet, filter full but no pressure, turn key...plenty of fuel from pump. Put hose back - car starts right up. Next time, remove hose - plenty of fuel under pressure, hook back up - car starts. Any ideas? Not sure if this is related to fuel or not. Thanks.

are you shure you have the Fuel lines connected correctly, Its important that you have the return lines on the right connections.
IIRC there are 3 connections coming from the intake manifold, the top one connects to the output from the filter, the middle one is for the fuel line that has the Regulator in line near the filter, and the bottom on if for the remaining line that dosent have anything inline and dosent go to the filter.

Yes, that checks out as you describe. Of course the filter was replaced w/ the pump - forgot to add that. I guess I'll pack a few tools along and drive it - see if this keeps repeating. Thanks for the help.
