Question white smoke coming from turbo area

I was driving in traffic when I pulled up to stoplight ,I noticed white smoke coming out of hood scoop . I pulled in & raised the hood , looked like smoke is coming from turbo area/down pipe area. It smells like oil burning on an exhaust . I got a flashlight & cant find any leaks ,even minor ones . I ended up driving more last night & this morning with no leaks or smoke . Has anyone had similar problem . car is 03 wrx sedan .

well. thats odd. burning oil going to make black smoke. usualy you never see white 'smoke'. its usualy steem. if you saw steem coming from your turbo it could be the cooling system.

Its smoke, not steam(the best I can tell) . The weird thing , its not doing it now . I wonder if some plastic or rubber may have gotten loose & gotten caught up in the heat shields. The smell is usually similar to oil burning .

The only time I've seen something similar is when I've been through a car wash and water got in the hood scoop. Might be the turbo bearings

Sorry, I guess I should have clarified that a bit. If you have too much oil getting to the bearings, the excess has to go somewhere. Typically, it will burn off. The sound and black smoke comes from too little oil and your bearings seize up.

What did he do to fix it? Just replace the oil return line? Was it clogged or what?

Well i see you said its smoke not steam but my first thought is was the ac running? Mine was dripping on the dp at one point and did that. Also had the turbo coolant line blow another day and got that. That was a scary day. Made a smallish pop then white steam out the scoop. Til i looked at it i was sweating bullets. Good luck
