What is this wire?

Hello guys,

I was installing mud flaps today and i realised some wires were cut or broke. I have check engine about something called "emission control" if i rememeber correctly. I was reading around forums about a certain "box" under the car. There was a known problem about harnesses or wires being not plugged correctly into the box which could cause this check engine. Could this be what is causing my check engine?

Its a sedan 2004 wrx.

Thank you very much and happy new year.

Thats on the passenger side yes? It does look the area were a charcoal canister is, that is for emissions. If its damaged or wires around it that arent plugged in you can have some CELs and things associated with it. It looks a little different than my 07, and I havent been under my 05 in awhile.

I would try and get it up on a lift and check it out from there. Get those codes read and written down. If you can plug them back in. Why or how did they get unplugged to begin with? Have you had issues when it comes to filling up your car? But anyways if you can plug them back in, disconnect the battery, drive the car and roughly around 100 or so miles if the CEL doesnt come back on, the problem should be resolved.
