What does a normal stock 2011 WRX turbo sound like?

Just bought a 2011 Subaru WRX premium, 13k miles, everything stock performance wise. I'm still on my first tank of premium and recently a couple of times the car has taken 5+ seconds to start, the smell of fuel getting into the cabin. I'm going to take it back to the dealer to be looked at soon to do some bitching, but my friend (who is a mechanic) and I were curious on what a stock turbo sounds like?

The reason I ask is because it sounds a bit like a space ship, to put it in super technical terms, and he says he's never heard a turbo sound like that before. He works at a Hyundai dealership so he isn't as familiar with these, and I'm a bit of a newb at cars, so I thought this might be a good spot to ask. After I told him about the start problems, he suspected maybe an exhaust leak in the turbo. Carfax showed that the turbo was replaced/repaired at one time. Thoughts?

I'm not too sure on the starting issue, and hope someone else chimes in to help further diag it. It certainly shouldn't be taking 5+ seconds to start though that's for sure.

As far as the turbo goes though if all is stock you should BARELY even be able to hear it all, nevermind it sounding like a space ship. Now this is a serious question lol! But does it sound like a "Jetsons" car or does it sound like there's a 747 under the hood? Could be quite a few different things, but if we're talking about just a "high airflow" sound like a 747 there could be a boost leak/disconnection of sorts. If "Jetsons" sounding you could be looking at a turbo rebuild. Def get that thing back to the dealership you bought it from as that's something you don't wanna pay for out of pocket.

Is this a high pitched noise? When does it happen?

Is there any "studder" at higher RPM? Or is the power smooth throughout the RPM range when accelerating?

It's not loud at all, so I'd go for the Jetsons sound hah. No studder, it's still pretty smooth.

Yeah def get that back to the dealer man. You've might have something malfunctioning inside the turbo from what it sounds like.

Does it make the noise while its spooling or during shifts?

Alright. All the questions I asked would be related to leaks. Def doesn't sound like a leak problem though. Best of luck with getting it repaired easily OP. Used dealers can be a PITA sometimes.

That would be best if possible. Many sounds are pretty distinct and able to be diagnosed better if heard.
