Angry Wastegate Vacuum Line

Ok, I have been having trouble with hitting stock boost for months now. I have stock airbox, hks cat back exhaust. and a BOV. I have been hitting 6 lbs of boost for months, sometimes I can hit nine when the car is cold but it will drop to 6 always. I checked for vacuum leaks and made sure all the hoses on the TMIC and turbo where on and snug. I felt the vacuum that goes to my stock waste gate and it broke right off like a cracker. It was to short to put the vacuum back on so I went to auto zone to get it replaced. On the way I gave it gas and I hot 14lbs boost strong, almost broke loose on the tires when it hit 14lbs. the engine light did come on but I was still pushing 14lbs. I reinstalled the new vacuum line to the wastegate and what do you know... im back at 6 lbs? !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!

Did you check your vacuum hose to see if the restrictor pill is in there?

There's no creasing in the hose line at all right? And your connections are snug? ANd yes 1st make sure you can feel the pill (the side of the T that leads to the turbo, not wastegate).

Also, I don't want this to sound stupid but is it safe to leave the vacuum off the wastegate since im getting 14lbs great boost, no engine light now and no hesitation. I don't know if it is safe though to leave the line off the wastegate. It runs so much better when it is off.... with it on i'm at 6lbs. with it off i'm at 14lbs? just until I can afford to take it to the shop?

No it is not safe.Check the stock lines for the restrictor "pill".Should be a small brass restrictor in the line between the compressor housing to the "T".

If it is missing or has been tampered with (manually drilled), that's the problem. If it is fine, there is a different issue which I need more details about the car to guess at.

i had the same problem except my boost would surge... so i talked to my buddy who used to build sandrails with the 2.0 flat and we looked on how they had the vaccuum lines and they didnt run the line from the wastegate to the boost pressure sensor and so i just ran the line from the "t" back into the intake and avoided the sensor and it eliminated my problem and run a solid 14lbs
