utec reading

My boost gauge reads 15 psi but sometimes my utec will read 20+psi and then will do a fuel shut off thing. My gauges I have never read 20+ psi. Whcih one would be right??? Why would my Utec read a higher boost level?

Thanks in advance.

The UTEC is correct. It is reading MAP and is cutting off because the UTEC's overboost fuel cut is at 20 psi.

Yeah, oops. That was supposed to be, do you have a stock boost guage (reason being they are horribly inaccurate)? And as Cosmo stated, the UTEC would be correct.

I have an autometer one and a omori or something like that. What is causing this? I do have an aftermarket intake. i also do have one screw missing from where you mount the MAP sensor to the intake. WOuld that make a difference?

Mechanical or electric autometer? The UTEC will be right because that is what IS controlling boost.

omori is electrical, and autometer is mechanical. omori reads about 2 psi higher than the autometer.

Your UTEC is right. Don't worry about the other gauges.

I hate to sound insensitive, but, have you had anything BUT problems with this car since you bought it? I feel bad for you.

nope, same problems ever since i bought the sti injectors. it was fine until i had them installed. Cosmo, would my aftermarket intake make the utec see more boost? Or possilby the missing screw that mounts it down? Right now its boosting and running real strong at 15 psi. But I want more power, 18 psi if i can and thats what I am trying to achieve.

Thanks

You are getting more power if it's cutting out. That means you are hitting 20+ psi. Where are the gauges installed (well where are they reading from)? They should be fed off the hose on the side of the blowoff valve (I think).

Its possible that the UTEC could be wrong. To find out go buy a boost/vacuum meter (with peak) from Autozone (30-40 bucks, not the gauge kind) and tap into the vacuum line off the manifold or turbo with a vacuum hose T. This guage should give you the correct reading at idle, compair it to the UTEC. Now close the hood and do a quick first gear run, log the UTEC. Match the Peak hold on the meter versus the UTEC, there ya go. I've never seen the UTEC to be off more than 1/2 a psi without somebody previously messing with the calibration. Let me know

One other thing you might want to check is the UTEC parameters. Make sure the UTEC boost display is set to "gauge" instead of "absolute".
