turbo?

i bought my car about 2 months ago and last weekend i was asked by a friend of the person i bought it from if my turbo went out yet. this kinda scared me. i have the 100,000 mile warrenty but my car does have a compleatly different exhaust system. i asked my local subie dealer if that voided anything and they said no. this is my first turbo car so i still don't know much about them. is the turbo going bad around 40,000 miles a likley thing? what kinds of stuff do you start noticing if the turbo is going bad? thanks for any help guys.

it starts to whine and be unresponsive not getting to full boost. The turbo is covered in your factory warrantee which it sounds like you extended. Hopefully it will die on mile 99,999 for you so you get a new one

No seriously, Turbos have come a long way. They're not as delecate as they were

Frankly, in my stock car I cannot hear the wastegate, the blow off valve, or even more than just a slight high pitched spool sound from my turbo. It seems like you need to change the intake, bov, etc for these things to be more audible. If your turbo is really making a racket and all that stuff is stock, I'd be worried.

The wastegate makes a flutter sound and only when the turbo is pegged at full boost to prevent the boost from going higher (thanks cosmo). I think the "turbo death whine" is considerably louder and you should really feel the car struggling. This your first turbo ride? Could just be you're not used to it
