Use the lever by the driver's seat, once it's open flip the "cancel" lever on the latch.

Anyone have any other ideas. Last time i had to take out the back seats and hit the lil glow in the dark bypass lever. But i supported the subs so that they wouldent move and i screwed myself. and i know i havent touched the cancel lever because i shut the trunk from the trunklid itself and i dont slam it. no idea what to do

is there any way you can bend a metal hanger so that you can pull the safety latch with it?

i got it open with my breakerbar the hanger was too flimsy. and the latch is the dumbest design on the whole car. the opener and the cancle switch are one in the same. if the lever gets stuck up in the car it hits the switch and cancles it and in turn locks it. I have no idea why somone would want that on in the first place. This is the second or third time ive had to take my seats and braces out to open the trunk. This is the only thing i dont like about the car. And my key dosent work in the trunk. Is there a seprate key for the trunk on the 02-03 wrx. Thanks for the help everyone

Shouldnt be a seperate key. Are you the original owner? If you arent a trunk swap was probably done and the locks werent changed. My 05 key doesnt work on the trunk either, it sucks.

It does sound like a trunk swap was done and that's probably why u are having this problem.

Is there a way to get a lock from the stealership that will work for my key? Longshot but worth it to ask.

I believe you can get the trunk "re-keyed" to your key that you use for the ignition. Not sure if the dealership can or will do it, worth a try though. Or they might even be able to find the number of the lock somehow/somewhere and get you a key just for the trunk.

i have the exact opposite problem you do with my 06. id never had a problem with it. i just push it down with a normal force and it would latch. but this one random day i went to close it, it just bounced off. i was like wtf? so then for 20 min i pushed it down but it wouldnt latch so i slamed it and it closed. but now i cant use my trunk lever. i hear it click but nothing happens. i have to get out and open it with the key every time. its wierd. plus my trunk is messed up (botched debageing) so i think ima get a carbon fiber trunk, plus it will be much lighter...i think lol
