Still have bad gas mileage

I have noticied that my car is really sucking up gas. My car only has 2500 miles on it and i have had it since june. So i filled my tank up and ran it until the gas light came on. When i filled the tank, i put 14.43 gallons in it. My trip stated that i went 242 miles on the tank (until the light came on). so 242 miles divided by 14.43 is 16.77 miles per gallon. I dont drive hard, i almost always stay out of the boost (for gas reasons) and the car is stock. My buddy has a 07 Mazda speed3 and said he had the same problem until he had about 4000 miles on the car. Is this normal for break in? I plan on getting the AP stage 1 soon. Will this help the gas mileage? I didnt buy this car cause i wanted to save on gas, but, when they rate the car for 20 plus miles per gallon in the city, i get worried. any suggestions?

i think it's just the factory tune on that thing, those 07s came out with a crappy tune from subaru.

I have heard that the 07 tune is terrible. My brother has an 07 STi and on the forums he is on, they said that the car will run like crap if he didnt get the AP. I guess its the same for the WRX. Right?

When I got my 07 I was getting about 18-20 MPG without my AP. When I got my AP I got better gas mileage running the stage 1 map. It went to about 22-23MPG when not drivin in boost.

With all the things I've heard about the 07s, that really does sound like a tuning issue. I usually average 24 - 26 MPG with my 06 wrx. Thats with a mix of babying/moderate acceleration (usually a max of 4.5k rpm when not babying it). Unfortunately all of this is city driving, so lots of stop/go.

You might want to try and find someone with an AP who is willing to unmarry it from their car so you can give it a shot to see if it helps with the gas mileage.

Well i want to get the AP anyway, so Im just gonna buckle down and buy it. I love my car but the gas thing bothers me. I have also noticed that it runs high in the RPMs. It like my crotch rocket, first, second and third seem to be real short and therpms just want to go higher. Will the AP fix this to? smooth it out?

umm my 2.0l stage 2 was getting 280 a tank on my normal commute to work, 50/50 city highway. when I took road trips I was getting 320 a tank. With my Hybrid setup up now I only see a 1 MPG difference with it still on base being tuned. I would say your driving style might have something to do with it.

Heres something interesting, "On the highway, speed bleeds gas - and dollars. Think of it this way: for every five mph increment you travel above 60 mph, you're paying about 10 cents more per gallon."-(Car & Travel)
