Steering wheel shake like crazy!

Hi guys, I don't know if you can help me...

When I'm driving on the highway, I always have a shaky steering wheel, even after I got my 4 wheels balanced... When I touch the brakes, the steering wheel just start to go crazy.
I tought it was the disk that was warped, but after replacing the four disks and all the brake pads, it's still shaking and seems to get worse.
My dealer doesn't have any appointement available until next week, and I don't want to lose a wheel while driving until then!

It's a 2008 WRX if it can help.

Thanks

Are the tires new? I would go back to where you got it balanced and see what they say. If they aren't new you probably have a bad tire(or two). Sucky part is you don't wanna replace just one or two, you need to have the same tread height on all four. If you dont you can really mess up your car. Now if you just bought them I would be going right back to the place you got them for the problem to be fixed.

1. Your tire is out of round.
2. Your wheel is bent.
3. Your have tie rod play.

Switch the front to the back and see if it subsides... Or goes away... either one... if it does then it's a tire or wheel. If not, what brfatal said.

Easiest way to find out if you are at home and can do this yourself in 20 mins.

I got the tires last year, there's only 4000 miles on them... I doubt it would be the tires or the wheels, because it's doing the same thing with my winter tire and wheels.

What's the best way to check for tie rod play? Also, someone told me it might be a wheel hub, would it be possible? My steering wheel is also shaking a little bit when i'm driving at 60mph.

Jack it up, grab the top of the wheel and the bottom of it at once. See if you can wiggle it in and out.
Whether it does or not, than pull the wheel off and try to wiggle all the bits in there. Nothing should wiggle too much. A very little play is normal ( like a 32nd of an inch at most )

What about your alignment? A friend of mine would hit curbs (on accident) and his toe was off by 1.2 degrees if I remember correct. But him having 1 tire with a messed up toe angle made the steering wheel shake horribly.

Alright, I will check for the free play tomorrow.

I got the aligment done on march, I had 1 degree off on the rear left wheel, but it didn't fix anything.

Jack the front up and try to feel for hub play like Randy suggested. You might even be able to feel for it when it's on the ground if it's that bad.
