Replace block? Need advice

My 2002 WRX needs a new engine block. Broken rod I believe.
My options are to...
1) replace the block
2) find a used motor and swap it
3) sell car

What do you guys think?
Replacing the block could be $5000.
Only used motor my mechanic could find was a 04 WRX motor 80K miles for $2500 + shipping from CA.

Do you need an entire new long block or just a short block? You could buy a brand new short block from Subaru and have it installed for <3500 or rebuild it

Welcome Duners

Give them a call, wagonracer has bought a few of their shortblocks and has been happy I believe the car he is driving now has one of their motors

Yea bad luck for sure. I was talking to my mechanic today. Its definitely a connecting rod that broke.

All set. Bought a motor today. Hopefully I can get my car done in time for Wicked Big Meet.

I saw your ad earlier. I might be hitting you up for some stuff.
I found a used motor from a 2002 wrx. $1800 delivered. 96K miles. Came with turbo & intercooler. Already had the timing belt replaced. Just needs the plastic belt covers and knock sensor.
