Power Steering 05 wrx wagon

Hi all. New here. Got two Subarus in the family. 2011 Outback 3.6 with 3500 miles and a 2005 WRX Wagon with 99000 miles on her.

On the WRX, the power Steering pump is going out. A shop wants a little over $300 to rebuild it plus labor - aorund 430 total. Does that sound right? I'm seeing them refurbished for half the price on line...

Also the steering wheel is shaking while turning at low speeds - and not under braking. Left or right. The shop is saying my rotors are warped and the power steering is not the issue. Kicker is - the brakes are new as are the rotors and i get NO steering wheel shake while under high speed braking.

What do you guys think?

Thank you for any input.

Edit: The steering wheel shaking started to occur as the power steering pump got worse. It was not an issue before.

nothing to do with yur brakesyou would feel vibration on your pedal at all speeds it your power steering pump yhats causing the pullsatng at low speed turning its the pump giving the rack power an then releasing it causing the pulsating if you have any handy skills with a wrench its a simple change

Thank you Paul. I checked for the pulsating while the car was idoling and sure enough when I turn the wheel, it shakes. And that confirms that something is up with the fluid or the pump.

Thanks again Paul!

Swapping the PS pump is easy. If you can get the part for half the price replace it yourself.

Done. All fixed up. Thank you guys.

Now time for the ole timing belt and water pump change. Just replaced the radiator as well.

Costs are starting to add up at a hundred thousand miles. Guess it's just that time. One things for sure the next owner will have a car that'll last a long time. On hold for the next sti. Fingers crossed.

Thanks again guys

Now, your responding to someone that has already fixed the problem. I still think this guy is spamming ebay links in his post.

why does the word ebay get made into a automatic weblink?
