Just bought my 03 Wrx a few days ago. CEL came on yesterday, code read P0172
The car runs fine under a sustained speed, but when shifting and releasing the gas it seems the engine is not receiving fuel and kills itself. It has only done this once, but even in idle it feels as if there is a shortage of fuel running to the engine.
But isn't P0172 "system too rich"?
Previous owner had put an aftermarket bov on and I plan on replacing it with a factory bpv from Subaru. (Any suggestions for finding them cheap online would be helpful )
Its possible the aftermarket BOV is leaking but without any other diagnosis from you (fuel pressure check, vacuum leak check, mod list, datalog) its a shot in the dark without actually seeing the vehicle. You could find a used stock BPV on NASIOC's classifieds probably.

My cel code was from my IACV. It was bad and when replaced no more CEL's.
Cheapest I could find was Chapmans. Find subiegal on nasioc she can help with buying it.

Yes, daytime running lights come on when brake is released
Ok, thank you. First time suby owner so I'm still a little disoriented about the car.
Update:
-Sometimes when I accelerate hard and then let off the the throttle, the car dies..?
Faulty fuel injector?
-CEL light went off for about 35miles then came back on.
-It also seems to have been some half-a$$ wiring job under the hood, there are independent wires running from my battery, to a fuse, and then to somewhere behind my front end. I haven't gotten a chance to look at it yet because of work and school, but from a quick view earlier it looked it was wiring for my headlights and/or foglights?
Update:
-Ordered a factory BPV, should be here in a few days.
-I pulled off the aftermarket BOV and the compression spring on the inside had about 14 washers stacked behind it. Is that normal..? I pulled them out and put the BOV back on, but then the seal wasn't closing all the way when I was in idle. So I put the washers back in and it seems to be closing and opening with no problems. But I did notice that when I hit the gas at a decent acceleration, there is a very loud air noise coming from the engine bay that I have never heard before. I also noticed I forgot to put the oring back in the BOV, could that be the reason I'm hearing the noise?
