p0131 trouble code

I have an '06 Impreza wagon with the 2.5i and its showing a p0131. I know this is low voltage at the upstream air/fuel o2 sensor, #1. My question would be, is it low voltage in the supply circuit to the sensor, or is low voltage from the sensor? I don't want to spend the $250 for the sensor and that not be the problem. Any advice on this, or how to test it, would appreciated!

99% of the time its from the sensor, also shop around for a sensor thats way to high, I usually pick them up in the 130 market

Ok, that's what I thought. Where are you finding your sensors at? I can handle $130 better than $250. Something I forgot to mention is that the check engine light is also flashing. Is that the computer's way of alerting the driver to the CEL?

I got one (OEM) from Amazon for $104 just a few months ago.

The flashing CEL indicates multiple random misfires.
Assuming that sensor is bad and not feeding info to your computer, it can't adjust your A/F mix correctly, so it may have the engine in limp mode with a very conservative mix and low boost to avoid potential damage from running lean. Is the cruise light flashing too ?

Yes its the cruise light that's flashing, not the CEL. The low voltage is the only DTC stored. The mixture being off makes sense because of the a/f sensor going bad.

Now can that same thing happen to an 02 wrx?
