Older JDM EJ20T into 02 WRX

Im new to WRX and to Subaru and I cant seem to find a direct answer to my question. I have an 02 WRX, I just purchased it and it did not come with an engine but it did come with a transmission that has a bad bearing or something. I can get a JDM EJ20T for cheap and it comes with a 5 speed trans. I believe the motor is a 93. So my question is, will this JDM 93 EJ20T motor and trans drop right into my car without any modifications? Im sure I would have to swap the diff's out between the transmissions to keep the same FD at both ends. Any help is much appreciated. Im just trying to get myself a running WRX.

no, it's a Phase 1 motor so it's not a direct swap, you would also need to swap the wiring harness and ECU from the EJ20T

The EJ20T comes with a wiring harness and ECU, and my car has the original harness that spreads out into the engine bay. Would I be better off just waiting til an 02 WRX motor pops up and getting it?

Pretty sure the EJ20T isn't a real engine code used by Subaru... Chances are it's an EJ20G

RcrsWetDream you would be correct with that, it's just that most of those JDM websites call it an EJ20T or something like that

Ericb: yeah you would be better off waiting to get an EJ205 or even build your own hybrid motor using an STi shortblock with WRX heads, just search "Hybrid Engine" on here or NASIOC

Garage
Remember people, the 02-05 WRX is DRIVE BY CABLE and many of the JDM motors, even older ones, are DRIVE BY WIRE! Converting a car from one to the other is infeasible. Your entire wiring harness, your petal, and a whole lot of stuff needs to be changed.

Ericb an LS1 swap is not even close, people on NASIOC are selling EJ205's all of the time for decent prices, and Mosc I believe the motor he is talking about is the EJ20G which is Drive By Cable, I am almost certain the first drive by wire H4 from Subaru was the EJ207
