oil burn off

I just did my valve cover trying to track down a leak which in turn smokes. In the process, I covered everything in oil. Absolutely drenched. How long would that take to burn off? I've since driven the car for about an hour or so, still pluming smoke. And a fresh drop of oil on the ground, but I guess heat could loosen oil up higher and make it drip.

Hoping the leak is gone but to me seems like one trip should burn off the majority....

That sucks.
Maybe grab a can of engine cleaner and spray everything that is safe to clean.
It should come off pretty easy since its fresh oil and not the old caked up stuff.

I guess I'm asking how long that would take to burn off? 2 hours or 2 weeks?

I'm hoping I got the leak, but the fact that I've driven it about 4 times for 20 minutes or so and every times smokes just as bad makes me think I still have a leak. If this keeps up I guess I need to go after the oil return on the turbo next

I agree with chuck man, spray what ya can.
But to answer your question, the embarisment of being the smelly guy should be gone in a day or two(100 miles or so)

I would say maybe a day or so if you drive it for a extended amount of time and if you spray it down maybe a day.
Just take her down the HW for a nice ride.
Your best bet would be to spray it down with cleaner then you can start from scratch as far as checking for leaks goes.
