Newb, need help

I've checked the search forum but the key words I'm using are too generic but I can't think of any of way to word my search (sorry if this one is out there already.)

I've seen several posts about people getting the CEL (not flashing) and the cruise light is flashing. The posts have stated a bad O2 sensor is the cause. Well that's the problem I'm having. The O2 went bad because of the aftermarket header and up pipe on my 06 WRX. I have to imagine this has happened to others and I'm hoping there is a way to fix this.

I put the header on during the summer... my CEL came on about 2-3 weeks ago. The dealer said the header burnt the O2 sensor up and now it's making my fuel system run rich. I know not all headers are made the same... I have equal length headers and the O2 sensor location was moved to the up pipe about 4 inches away from the turbo. Not sure if the additional heat from the turbo is the cause of this. The dealer stated a new O2 would eventually burn up just the same.

Any suggestions? Has this happened to anyone else and they found a cure? I appreciate any help I can get with this. Thanks.

Not good to have a sensor pre turbo without a cat first of all (could kiss your turbo goodbye), thats a bad place to stick it. Secondly after dealing with that I'd get some Engine management of some kind to get rid of that CEL.

The 06 did not have a cat on the up pipe to begin with. I did the work myself and still have the old manifold and up pipe. The only difference is the location of the O2 sensor and of course better flow.

I don't know if the header just makes the O2 thread deeper into the header than it did with the manifold of if being that close to the turbo is burning it up. I'd like to know if they make an aftermarket O2 that can with stand higher heats.

Thats where ALL Subaru O2 sensors go regardless of stock or aftermarket unfortunalty.A O2 sensor is not going to break and ruin your turbo, but an EGT probe will. The dealer is wrong.Your 02 sensor crapped out.Unless this happens all the time I would say this is a problem. If your worried about the heat wrap the header and the turbo.

Oh I see, I didn't think that's how it went but thanks Ron for correcting me.
