Name that part

When I pulled my engine, there was a short red hose elbow that went between my intercoller and my intake, (I think, it's been a while.) It definately sat right on the front of my intercooler and went down. I bought the car with an STI topmount and a VF39 with the original WRX heads.

When we pulled the engine, that short 90 hose got split and I need another. But apparently that hose is a straight hose on STI's and WRX's don't have topmounts, so is this hose aftermarket? I've talked to 3 different guys at the dealer and I've gotten 3 different answers, I don't think they know what I'm talking about. What is it called and is it aftermarket? Thanks!

I'm thinking it could help us if you stated the approximate diameter of the hose you are referring to

About 2.5 inches. Dead center on the front of the intercooler

Photobucket

I think you are referring to the bottom section of the y-pipe (assembly) that attaches to the turbo (just right of center in my picture). But then again, I would like to hear some other opinions.

(FYI, picture POV is looking into the engine bay from the driver's side of the car, at intake and turbo air output with topmount Intercooler removed.)

You're right. Sorry about that, it's been like 2 months since I pulled it. We figured it out at the dealer. Thanks though. BTW it's $350 for that 4 inch silicone hose. Ridiculous?

In case this is ever handy to anyone, I went to Baxter and they got me a similar elbow that I can cut down to size myself for $60. The material is supposed to be very durable, made for turbo aps. Thanks again.

Umm yeah they do.

Looks like you are talking about the entire y-pipe. Also the only piping in the area you are talking about is the one in the picture. It connects the intercooler to the throttle body.

If that is a WRX in the above picture, it's missing the TMIC and the y-pipe. If you need the stock TMIC for a WRX I have one. Wouldn't mind selling it off.

I thought that the 02-03 came with front mounts? But I bought my car already converted to an STI topmount, so what do I know?

The piece I'm talking about isn't the entire y-pipe. Thanks for offering to help me out, but like I said I already got something that will work fine. It is a small 4 inch long 90. It attatches to the end of (but I think is part of) the y-pipe, and 90's over to the turbo.

So you're going from the turbo to the the throttle body? I'm confused.

All the WRXs have been stock with TMICs. The size is the biggest thing that changes between the years. 02-03 has the largest excluding the STi TMICs, if I recall correctly.

Thanks for the offer but this picture is a bit dated (last October), from when my stock turbo started to go (there's some pretty nice oil swirls inside the turbo air output)

I'm confused too. Thanks for your time, but I got the part now so I guess it doesn't matter.

Yeah, I noticed the oil. What turbo did you replace it with?
