My Story

So I took my subie in the the the dealer to get the 48,000K service. In that service they flush the cooling system among other things. I got it done April 28/2010. Drove the car home everything was fine so i thought. I babied the car on the way home. I thought it would be a good idea to take it easy on the way home. Then on the 29 i didn't go to work due to the snow storm. So on the 30 of April i went to work got there just fine. After work Got some gas checked the oil it was good nice and clean got in my car and drove home. My dive is a 30km one way i live in Raymond and work in Lethbridge. About half way home my TEMP goes through the roof. I pull over shut the car off open the hood everything looks fine so i thought! I open the manual and it says "if there is steam coming out of the hood leave it off. If not let the car run at idle so it can cool down" so i did and it cooled down. I continued to drive home. I got to the end of my block and more fun stuff stared to happen the TEMP went back up the car stared to stalling right in my driveway. So i get out i open the hood its clean so i am like WHAT THE HELL MAN. I feel the top rad hose NO PRESSURE. I looked at the over flow tank for the rad its at the full line. I open the ran cap i am like hmmm. I cant see much so i go to the store get some coolant i put some in. As i am poring its going out of it looks to be the bottom of the rad. So i am like MAN. I get my jack out. As i am jacking the car i see coolant all down the side the car again "". I get it up take the skid plate off. I look at the bottom rad hose ya its not connected to the rad So i check the oil its burnt. I take the oil cap off its smoking a little. At this point i am ready to lose my mind i close the hood. So on Saturday i called the dealer and got it towed and there the WRX sits. Now me in a G6 rental and the WRX my "baby" sits at the dealer. So the million dollar question is THE WRX toast?

Was the engine making any scary noises??? And If you turned it off asap Im sure that you are ok. I had this happen to my Moms VW GTI VR6 this summer. She had the coolant flushed and brakes done and they forgot to clamp one of the lower radiator hoses. It did this same thing and she turned it off immediately after seeing the temp and the engine was fine.

As long as you werent hearing like crazy loud pings or something from engine I would think that you would be fine just like my gti was. I would say it just depends on how long you drove it before you noticed the temp.
