check your tranny gear oil level, where is it coming from front or back? maybe a wheel bearing or something, sound like when there is a drag on the car its making it stop like when your costing or getting on it, but i would check the fluid levels of rear diff and tranny

Describe were its coming from and it might be more helpful. The WRXs has been known to have several noises to it, most have been found and resolved.

hummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm it was me.
I wouldn't be a bearing because he'd have it at all different speeds/throttle positions. Without more information is almost impossible to diagnose.

It could be as simple as a bad balance on the tires.

awd4life may be on to something. Have your dad check to see if you are missing any wheel weights. Also, find out if it's only at 60 or is that where it first becomes noticable.

out of balance tires wont give you a humm either, just a shake or vibration.

It could be the tread pattern of the tires. Some are noisier than others and that sound could peak at 60mph on his tires and result in the hum.

Some tires hum at speed. Some have resonance at a certain tread depth with a certain mph. What tires are on there?
