Looking for local shop

The engine in my 2004 WRX died the other day, stalled while I was driving. I was able to restart it after it sat for a few hours however it made some nasty banging noises, sounds of loose metal, when I started it up.

Had it towed to Subaru, their diagnosis is that "something" is broken in the engine and it needs to be replaced. Used engine with 60,000 miles => $6,800. New engine => $7,600.

I'd like to find a shop or someone locally who can take the engine down and find out what really broke and what it would take to fix. Everything is OEM on the car, except for the tires.

Any places you can recommend? I'm located in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Thanks!

Sounds like they are trying to take you for a ride. When mine broke, I had a quote of $3500 for a new ej25 bottom end installed. You shouldn't pay anything close to that. Sorry I can't help with the shops.
