idle gone wack

Sooo, sometimes after regular driving, my idle will jump to about 1500 after i stop somewhere to run an errand or what have you. It normally idles at 500. Then if ill stop somewhere else sometimes it just drops back to normal. What gives? Your responses are appriciated as always

+1 Idle Air Control Valve Solenoid. Just take it off and give it a good cleaning and replace the gasket.

does this happen in traffic, high heat environment? Or just regular driving?
The reason i ask is because the cruise control appearantly starts pulling on the cable by itself when it overheats casuing high idle. I have that issue and will try to disconect the CC cable to check if the issue is still there.

+1 to cleaning the IAC and you should just as well clean out the MAF while your there you can hurt anything by doing that.

in addition, I loosened my cruise control cable and self-high-idle disappeared. I'll wait till warmer temperature to tripple check. Just FYI...

damn...my idle is gettin' all weird too...only on hot days. I received a recall notice for a cruise control clip thingy, but have yet to make an appointment to get it done. Does this component contribute to the problem? Where do i loosen the cc cable?? Sorry for the noob response.

the CC cable connects to the throttle body, if you look at it it has 2 cables , its the one on the passenger side. loosen the jam nut(I think its a 12 mm) and turn the bolt that the cable goes through until you have a little slack in the cable.

I began having this problem about a year ago (less than 40K miles), but only during the summer months. After I'd get off the interstate, my RPM's would go from 500-700 to 2000. This year it's gotten worse. The other day the RPM's went up to 3000+ at idle. Going through a drive-thru, I had to shut the engine off.

Idle Air Control Valve Solenoid, huh? I'm taking it in next week and I'll mention that before they go on their search and destroy (my wallet) mission.

Thanks much, guys!!!

I would try the cruise control cable first.
