Hi-Pitch Squeal/Whistling Noise

This noise started occuring a few days ago. From what i can remember it started happening almost immediately after me and some friends finished up having some AWD fun at an abandoned industrial park in the pouring down rain ... Whenever my turbo produces boost i hear a Hi-Pitch Squeal/Whistling Noise. The higher the boost, the louder the noise. The noise does not happen if i am sitting still, or revving in nuetral. It only occurs when i am actually driving. From the drivers seat, it sounds like the noise is coming from underneath my dash-board, right where it meets the bottom of the "A pillar". I removed the dash, trying to look for any vacuum lines or hoses, but came up with nothing that could be causing this noise. Also, could this be a leaking up-pipe gasket? I installed my Invidia up-pipe (which has no flex section) a little while back, and i was thinking that maybe the flexing of the car while i had been in that industrial park could have caused a gasket to blow. Im stumped as of now, and that noise is very irritating. I appreciate any insight on this. :Thanks:

if it only happens under boost your comp wheel is working its way into the comp cover and sending fine aluminium particles into your motor due to thrust bearing being worn out.(this is bad) do not drive the car for any reason unless you can afford a new turbo and an engine. how many miles has that turbo done and at what boost pressure and how often do you clean/replace your airfilter? also is it stock or aftermarket ie. what brand/trim
Bad luck, it sounds terminal for the turbo (rebuild required, good reason to go bigger)

I still have the stock turbo, it has 54,XXX miles on it. I have a short ram intake and i clean the filter often. This sound dosent really seem to be coming from the turbo, it sounds more like a leak in a pressurized line or something of that sort. It just only makes noise when it is pressurized.

if the engine starts to missfire and break down when this noise starts then it is an intercooler hose/pipe, if not, start looking at all your vacuum hoses for oil spots as a pinhole in one will show itself by a small spot of oil,the oil from inside the intake tract gets pushed through the hole with the pressurized air. start with the vacuum hoses that dont have much slack in them. good luck, if you can, pull off your intercooler and wipe some of the oil from inside your intercooler onto your fingers, inspect it closely, if there is any shiny particles in it your turbo is the problem. also check around your up-pipe and down-pipe, a minute exhaust leak in either of these joins can make a whistling noise as well.
good luck, hope this helps. post if you find the problem.

Like mentioned earlier in this post,it could be a pre turbo exhaust leak.An easy way to find an exhaust leak is to have a buddy get a couple of rags and start the car.Let the car idle and have your buddy cover the exhaust tip with his hand (and rags) for 15 seconds at a time.Don't just sit there with the exhaust plugged for like a minute or something. You listen for the leaks up front.Next step would be to pull the turbo inlet pipe and look into the compressor housing inlet.Look for visable damage on the outside of the wheel and for grooving on the compressor housing inlet where the wheel could have contacted.Rub your finger around the compressor wheel and see if you find metal shavings.

i would check the uppipe for leaks before you worry about the turbo being bad. another way to check for leaks is to look at the flanges with a light and if there is blackish grey build up (carbon) around the flange. its leaking
