help i'm so screwed!

so my 02 wrx was acting weird, in 1,2,3 it was going decently, no problems, but when in 4th or 5th, when starting at like 2-3000 rpms, if i punched it, it would slowly raise to about 4000 rpms, then jump to 7 very quickly, then drop back down and climb up normally, i thought this was jsut my clutch and my dad agreed, so i took it in to my friend and he said the clutch is perfectly fine, my turbo is screwed up and not picking up boost properly and i need to take it to the dealership. the problem, the dealer here charges 120 an hour labour fees and that will rape me hardcore. so i'm wondering what you guys think is causing this, it doesnt seem to me to be the turbo, or it wuold do it in all 5 gears i would think, so is it maybe the cpu is screwed up? right now i have 3 inch uppipe and 3 inch turbo back exhaust. the cel light is on because i didnt do the lower cel fix, but i don't think that really matters does it?

please help! thanks,

lights in your dash display come on for a reason to let you know what is going on with your engine you should prob. pay attention to em and act accordingly. plug up to a computer and check the codes, maybe its a vacuum leak?

OK, how does your friend know that your clutch is fine?? and a turbo that is going bad is not going to make your car rev up to 7 grand and have you car just sit there, how you explained it to us it sounds like the engine is reving up but its not putting the power to the drive train= bad clutch, another thing i can come up with is that sometimes when a clutch is starting to go out that in a lower gear you might not feel the slip as bad as when you put it in a higher gear it will have to work harder to get going so it will slip, take the dust cover off your tranny there are two 10mm bolts holding it on and see if you see any cluctch material.

because he works at midas and he had the journeyman mechanic look at it and they said the clutch is fine.. so i have no idea. i'll try taking the dust cover off, where is it located. on the side of the tranny?

yeah maybe i'll just take it to a different mechanic shop and see what they say. if it was turbo you'd think it would be like all boost all the time right?

Actually it would more likely be no boost none of the time.

hehe yeah. so i picked it up tonight, i guess the mechanic is a dick and told the owner that it's the turbo because he didnt want to do the clutch on the car since it's a huge job.. so he made my friend tell me on the phone while the boss was listening that it wasnt the clutch.. so yeah i'm going to take it somewhere else.

thats screwed up man, if i worked in a garage and knew that a job was a big job and your getting paid for it, wouldnt you want to do it???? but there are some really good DIY threads on here on how to pull your tranny and change your clutch i have done it twice and its not that bad man, i would stay with the stock clutch as well just buy the stock replacement Exedy clutch i buy them for $200 bucks shipped clutch pressure plate and throw out bearing.

it's your clutch...taking the transmission out of a wrx is easy, 2 hrs max.
