"Growling" Tranny

Alright the problem is on my '00 2.5RS. I have a few ideas but i want to know what you guys think...
I have a issue with my transmission every time i get off the throttle (engine brake) i hear a very mechanical grumbling, grinding noise from below the car. It is definitely a spinning part. It also sounds briefly when i shift gears, usually from 2nd to 3rd.
My first thought is a warped flywheel, and hopefully they aren't stripped gears... it has been getting progressively worse and more frequent and i think its time for a repair. Let me know what you guys think before i get t up on the lift.

have you ever done any mods to the tranny? well mods at all for performance? with it being a 00' model car i figure your mileage is way up there like mine (02 with 160k )

yea bro id say its about overdue for some tranny upgrades/repairs.

I think flywheel is out. If you had any problem with the flywheel, it would be any time that the clutch is engaged. It could be any number of problems inside of the transmission.
