This thread is here for us to post links about BOV's.
This stupid mod is asked about all too much. So in turn, I decided to make one single link that we can post on threads, than just walk away from them.
I'm not trying to be ignorant. It just seems as though nobody knows how to research before they ask.
So have at it guys and gals. Start posting the millions of links.
PS. If anybody posts that sticky from 2003, I'm gonna smack the stupid out of them
it only fixed the noise problem that was the "wastegate flutter" (needs a new mechanic) ok so i havent read all the million posts about bov's as posted in the links. has anyone running any bov's really had mechanical problems not shown by a computer? I think maybe the fact that the bov's throw off the computer may be the reason that they seem to leak? is this possible? or is it a mechanical fact? (braces for impact)
Changing a closed loop boost system to an open loop boost system is creating a problem...So, installing a BOV means you're creating a problem. It can't be tuned for...
i agree with u fully but has anyone had a problem with the bov that was positivly diagnosed as a bov leak issue. that wasnt by a computer? my car ran pretty well with the bov for quiet a while. i recently put a stocker on and didnt notice a difference. could it just be the fact that the computer just doesnt get whats goin on w/o the recirculation?
Just to clarify for anyone reading this thread that is unfamiliar with how BOV and BPV work here are a few key points:
* Blow Off Valves (or BOV for short) can be used as "Vent to atmosphere". Meaning they release pressurized air to the atmosphere when opened.
*Most modern vehicles use MAF (Mass Air Flow) or MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) and sometimes a combination of both to determine the amount of air entering the engine for fuel calculations.
*MAP tuned vehicles can generally use vent to atmosphere type BOVs just fine.
*MAF tuned vehicles or MAF and MAP combo vehicles are much more sensitive to "Vent to Atmosphere" type BOVs.
*Most BOVs can be used in a "recirculating mode" making them fine to use on MAF tuned vehicles.
*Some "Bugeye" 02-03 WRX vehicles use or can use MAP only tunes, making them more lenient to airflow modifications such as vent to atmosphere BOVs.
*Some BPVs or BOVs are available in "Hybrid" types which offer partial vent to atmosphere and partial recirculation for better driveability (The COBB XLE is like this).
There are tons of other factors that should be considered when choosing parts for your car. As with most things in life, the right answer for some is not always the best answer for all, so the best thing to do is to read up, educate yourself and don't be afraid to ask questions.
Bottom line is that BOVs work well for many people, but can introduce complexity if not setup correctly.
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
