i went to start my car this morning and i notice that i had a exhaust leak from the up-pipe experienced a small loss in power and gas mileage and since im not able to get into the garage because of my bros motor swap on his 300zx i thought i would ask to see which gasket it ussually is so i can go and purchase one then take it to someone to fix it for me its just too cold to work under a car outside right now
LOL I thought about that but im probably gonna wait till i get new maniflolds to weld it i was just gonna put a gasket on it to fix it for now and didnt know if it was normally the upper or lowwr gasket that leaked
you can tell how bad a leak is by how loud it is... soo do you have to open your hood to hear it.. or can you hear it from out side your car.. also do you hear the leak when your car is under boost.. or can you hear it just at idel..
well i fixed it i finally got a chance to get into the garage and when i got the gasket out it had a one inch gap where gasket should have been so i went to get the lower up-pipe gasket at my dealer and the guy at the parts counter didn't even know what the up-pipe was and tried to give me the turbo inlet gasket . so i went to advanced auto parts and they matched up the gasket almost perfectly, but now i dont think i want my dealer working on any warranty issues if they arise in the future
If (a lot of people will say "when") you get a leak, loosen up all the bolts on either side of the uppipe, loosen the turbo bracket bolts and then tighten the lower bolts (ones on the manifold) then tighten the upper bolts, put the downpipe back on, and then tighten the turbo bracket.
This might seem like a lot of effort, but you'll be happy to never have to screw with it again. I've never had an uppipe leak (however i've swapped gaskets in more than my share of friends uppipes), put it on once, took it off once and put it back in and haven't had any problems.
dont shy away from the dealer for repairs because of the parts goon. he doesnt do the work on the car, the techs do! I work for Mitsubishi as a tech, in all my years I have yet to find a parts man worth a squirt! have to babysit those pin-heads to be sure I get the right parts ordered! go talk with a tech or two over there if you can, use that to see if that dealership is worth going to.
