Engine Whine

Not too sure if this is really a problem or is normal just trying to find out. I have an 06 wrx that dosnt have really many mods (Intake, Accessport, BOV, down pipe) But ever since i bought the car it has always had a really whiny engine. when idling or at lower rpms the engine whines a good amount. Could this be to too little oil in the steering pump? Or is this just the normal tranny whine? Not too sure

Check the A/C idler pulley (the lower one right against the timing cover). shoot it with a tiny bit of WD40 or PB blaster, and see if the whine stops. This is a common cause of whining noise

Had the same issue when I got my car unfortunately myself and a buddy of mine who worked at Mazda miss diagnosed it as the alternator because it was definitely the idler pulley, it is cheap and very easy to replace on your own.
