engine noise

My car is now making a knocking noise coming from right under the turbo or the inlet noise. I can hear it at idle....I have a bad feeling on this one..any thoughts?

It's probably the downpipe hitting the transmission.

if it sounds like something is kicking the hell out of the firewall/floor, I imagine it's the downpipe, slide it away from the engine via the hanger bolt.

i had that going on this weekend, the downpipe was hitting the cross member. moved her over about a half inch or so and it is all better. i did not notice any knocking when switching to syn. but, I switched to syn at my first oil change ~ 2300 miles.

keep us updated.

I have a very hard time believing that changing to synth would promote frying a cylinder. You'd have more symptoms than just a knocking sound if it were a fried cylinder. It COULD be piston slap, however that is also something I don't think is the case. I will also go with the downpipe hanger/extension hitting against the transmission, or a loose bolt. Rule out the small stuff before you go thinking it's a fried cylinder.

I'm with blue on this one. It would be very unlikely that changing to synthetic would cause something of that caliber.
