Today is the first time I ran my subie on the dyno. I have a B&B high flow downpipe and a catback exhaust. I ran a few runs on the dyno, and my wrx is only putting down 123hp at the wheels. Immediately the guys at the shop started looking to see what the problem was. They concluded that they thought the downpipe had a clogged cat, or maybe it could be the turbo is damaged?? Could the clogged cat be enough for such HP loss?? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Something is DEFINATELY wrong. The stock WRX puts down around 160 to the wheels. I would try to put back on the stock exhaust and see what you get. Then if it is higher, check your dp and cat for anything wrong. If it is the same, something is probably wrong w/ the turbo.
yeh, will be putting back on stock downpipe today to see whats up. Yesterday I unbolted my catback after the downpipe and the car was hardly pushing any air out when I stuck my hand under there. Is there anything that would restrict flow like that other than a clogged cat??
sounds like the cat crapped the bed. running lean can cause enough heat to cause the cat to melt, plugging up the rest of the cat. then again...too rich can cause the cat to overheat and melt-down as well. put on the stock DP and see if the flow improves. you should also be able to see if the cat melted with a quick inspection of the engine side of that cat.
