Clutch smell

I just got my clutch replaced in my rex(don't ask) ha. I have been breaking it in for the 1,000 mile period. I have corrected my known mistakes from before. NO LAUNCHES. No hard shifting. For the first couple hundred miles on the clutch I could smell it. Not bad like after a bad launch but just a little. I figured it was just burning off the new. Well I'm at 1,200 miles now and I can still smell it a little. I was wondering if it was normal that it still smelling like that being that's its still new. Its not strong but I can smell it. Any suggestions or info?

Thanks

it usually does not have a constant smell. call the shop you had the work done at and ask if they have had this issue with this clutch in the past.

It's sort of hard to diagnose the problem without knowing your driving style. If I had to guess though, I would say you're engaging the clutch way too long when you shift (you should be able to shift smoothly using the clutch for only a second or two each time you shift). I had a friend who had a Saab with over 300,000 miles (that's right, three hundred thousand miles) on it with the original clutch. It is very unusual to have to replace it in the first 1,000 miles. If this is your first vehicle with a manual transmission, just keep practicing and it'll become second nature in no time.

check to see if the clutch pushrod has been adjusted for the new clutch. i bet its too tight, leaving the clutch partially disengaged at rest.

What clutch did you go with, was it a stock one?
