check engine light???

I just bought a 2002 wrx, I pushed it a lillte hard one day and the check engine light came on. The previous owner put a blitz turbo timer on it. Now the boost gauge reads in kgf/cm2, not psi. Well, I did the research, and the max boost I have seen is 1.1 kgf/cm2 (15.5psi). Now, I know stock boost is only suposed to be 13.5 psi. Anyone have any ideas if maybe this is why the light comes on...but, the damned thing goes out like the next day, I'll start the car and boom no check engine light????????

There are MANY reasons this happens. EGT's, Detonation, Etc... The best bet is to get the code read when it comes on. 1.1 IS WAY TO HIGH OF BOOST FOR A STOCK CAR. See what has been done to it before keeping your boost that high. 1.1 = 15.9ish, which could lead to your turbo being toast if you have a stock uppipe.

the stock uppipe has a catalytic converter in it...if you run much more boost then stock...it sill get too hot, and begin to deteriorate...sending pieces of converter into a rapidly spinning turbine wheel.....hastily speeding up the turbo upgrade timeframe.

Kob...

yes it is... but also remeber,

if turbo upgrade is far beyond your abilities, and far down the road ### you still need uppipe, turboback, UTEC, fuel injectors, fuel pump, etc... then that is not good idea... eh?

as we bow to the oh royal Kobiyashi...

Thanks again for all your help along the way...

i'm up to stage 3 now... running good... still no probs with knock... but i keep the boost just a little under where you told me...
