Car starts, then stalls out

Hey guys, I have a 1994 JDM WRX, imported about a month and a half ago. I've had it for 2 weeks, and now it's starting to act up.

When I turn the ignition, it starts and runs, but slowly sputters out and has stalled once. If it doesn't stall, it starts up and idle's at around 1200 when it's cold.

If you have any idea what is causing this that would be great thanks! Cheers.

It was just imported? I'd probably seek out a JDM friendly tuner of subarus or you might be fighting with this car for a while or as much as I hate recommending them. Go to North American Subaru Impreza Owners Club and they have some better support for JDM on there. Just be prepared for some flaming over there.

I'd start out doing all the regular maint and cleaning to see if you can pinpoint it yourself.

Plus it'll give you some time with the car.

I didn't think JDM would make a difference, is the car actually built that differently in comparison to the ones that were built here...?

The cooling system was just flushed, I'll do an oil change next I suppose...I asked my old high school mechanic and he said it could be anything from cold start injectors to coolant temperature sensor. :/

They don't have cold start injectors and they aren't really much different than what is sold here. The ECU and maybe a couple of minor things, but nothing that would make it "OMG!!! there's no way you can do it!". As pzr2874 suggested, give the car a good maintenance once over, check compression things like that. I'd say it is something simple as any engine needs the basics to run, air, fuel and spark. How they get those and what regulates them is a bit different for every car, but they still go by the same guide lines...Unless you own a BMW

Sounds like bad spark plugs to me. I'd try changing those while your at it.

Well how many OBD-I 1995 turbo cars have you worked on? Granted with Keith's logic a space shuttle is simple to work on too.

Yes they are that easy to work on. I suppose I could give you the technical description on that, but then again you'd just make fun of me again...

In terms of actually running a shuttle? Hydrogen + Oxygen + Ignition = Launch. But, that's not the point. The rest of the shuttle is the problem. OBD-I is a crude system to tune and not many people like to fool around with it for performance. Granted it is no shuttle, but its not like a old muscle car either. I'm sure just giving it a once over is your best bet for solving the issue. I'm guessing the obvious is that fixing any ODB-I sensors or a lot of the parts for your imported car is where its going to be a PITA. That's all I'm saying...
