- - burning oil? (http://www.wrxtuners.com/forums/f72/burning-oil-33224/)
So I've had my 04 wagon for about a month now and have noticed on multiple occasions a burning oil smell coming through the vents. Its way worse when I have the vents on the fresh air setting. Also I just changed the oil a few weeks ago and only 300 miles later I was half a quart low. When I bought the car I checked the oil and it looked good, then two weeks later I was a full quart low as well.
It looks like there is some leakage on the head gaskets, but the car doesn't appear to be leaking anywhere else. I have a six month warranty on the car and want to make sure that if there is a major engine problem that I get it taken care of before the warranty runs out.
This might be info for another thread but here are some other issues I have noticed:
- car has rather loud ticking or knocking sound when cold (might just be piston slap), sometimes it gets better when the car warms up other times it is still pretty loud
- in the 3-5k rpm range the turbo seems to pulse rather then pulling smoothly
No CEL and no codes being thrown.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
Got a video of the sound?

Yesterday after some mildly spirited driving I popped the hood after I got home and saw some smoke coming off the passenger side of the engine. I could rev the engine and produce more smoke, obviously oil is spraying on the exhaust somewhere. I am going to have to take the skid plate off and see if I can see anything.
