brake light problem

Hey guys, My BRAKE light on my gauge cluster has randomly turned on about 3 times now in the last 2 weeks. I have to turn the car off and back on to make it go away. Any ideas?

Do you have the right power bulb in the sockets? If the computer sees a different resistance than programmed it'll throw the light. Also, have you installed different tails than stock? Because if your wiring has a short it will do the same thing. Make sure that none of the wires leading to the lights are shorted, and check to see that the lights are all working properly, especially the 3rd brake light on the spoiler, which may have a short to the LEDs. It will only actually come on as you're pressing in the pedal, and it will stay on until you turn off the car. That's why I'd lean toward a short or a different bulb than the car is supposed to have (i.e. check to make sure that the BRAKE part of the bulb is the same wattage - I think it should be 5 watts for just tails, then 22 watts more for the brake - Total of 27 watts resistance for each bulb).

Check your brake fluid level, there is a sensor in there that will detect if your fluid is getting low.

I hate the same problem on my 3 series. It was a lose wire in the stock taillight....easy fix.
