boost spiking on an 03 wrx

I realize this has been talked over many times, but my car had been running 100% holding boost around 16-17 psi from 3.5k all the way up tapering to maybe 15psi, until today when i got on it full throttle in 4th it went to 17 then dropped to 12 and spiked to around 20 which i would never have expected, the only thing that went wrong is when my dad was driving as we were slowing he didnt clear it all the way out of third and dumped the clutch with it still in which jerked the car, i don't know if that could have made a difference or not just asking. my upgrades are tbe and stage 2 ACN on the ap

Fourth and fifth gear will always go above target boost. If you hitting you target boost on 3rd and then it spike up past target on fourth and fifth gear thats normal.

ACN stands for arizona cali and nevada gas cause its not as good, i'm measuring with the boost gauge for spt but in at a shop and also with the accessport but im not basing anything off the accessport which i was also looking at just as a double check device. It hits target boost in third then drops and goes past target, and this is just more extreme in fourth and fifth

Send a message via AIM to midniteblack
it's extremely commen with the stock turbo's(a lot of internal waste gated turbo's at that) if you have a tbe. the wastegates are small and can't react fast enough to the high gas flow that occures with a tbe. if you are in 4th,5th or 6th gear and punch it, it puts a big load on your wastegate that can't react fast enough. it should spike then go down instantly which isn't really a big deal. you can send in your turbo to have the wastegate ported or get a larger wastegate flapper. deadbolt enterprises is one company that i know does this. hope i helped!
