boost problem?

i own a 99 wrx and am currently reading 7-8 psi. i have a straight through exhaust and a blow BOV. no boost controller. i have been told that it should be boosting to about 14 psi. there are also places that tell me that a stock wrx can sometimes boost to 8 due to restrictions between the turboa nd teh cooler to reduce exhaust noise when they were built. there has also been advice that suburu ( dealers) will boost your car back down to 8 when you bring it in for a service as thats is what its supposed to be on. i brang myc ar to suburu to have the major service and got a boost gauge after so am no sure as to if they did it. any info will be appreciated.

What boost gauge do you have? And at what RPM are you getting that boost?

Also, what gear are you reading it at?

Is the gauge electronic or manual?

It would be very weird (even for that low of boost) to hit the same number in every gear, however possible. I would look into the boost gauge before I would call it a problem though, the boost guage sounds to me like it very well might be off. Have you done any other mods? Did you make sure all vacuum lines are connected in the bay? Hope this helps a little.

Buy an electronic gauge like Greddy, Defi, etc. Then see what happens.

8 psi is about where the wastegate kicks in if there is no boost selenoid activating or boost controller to up the pressure. When my boost selenoid went bad I was boosting 7-8 psi in all gears. Instead of speding alot of money at the dealer to have them fix it, I just opened up the ABC. Check to make sure all connections are in correctly. If yes, then you probably have a bad selenoid/stock boost controller. Go out and buy an MBC or EBC.

so if i put in a boost tap there should be no problem? the stock solenoid has just gone bad and it doesnt need to be replaced? can someone explain how boost control works. i know that the solenoid electropnically controls the wastegate but ive also heard that the actualtor does. this seems to be the difference between mbc and ebc but i dont get how the both work together. like if my solenoid is bad can i just use the actuator to boost up?

Both an MBC and an EBC bypass the Stock Boost Controller, so I don't know exactly what you're getting at?

I noticed a while ago that in 2nd and 3rd my boost peaks at 8 psi. I'm going by the factory boost gauge that subaru installs though. Not sure what 1st peaks at, rpm's shoot up too quick

The stock boost gauge is known to be unaccurate.

Nice, that's what I'm hoping. The turbo timer I'm getting has a digital boost gauge so I'll see what that reads

Are you getting the Blitz DTT. I think my boost gauge is accurate because my DTT reads about the same as the stock boost gauge maybe .01 hkpa different
