Boost leak?

Hey guys, new to the fourm here, need some help/ advice

I have a 02 wrx with a few mods. I'm sure that I have an exhaust leak somewhere. Some times when traveling down the highway in 5th gear whenI give it the gas i can hear a constant WHOOSH. I have a boost guage and it dosen't fall off untill I let off the gas. Could my exhaust leak be the source of that sound??


Some times when I'm ripping through second gear i cant hear it , (i have a 3 inch pipe from the turbo back) but it seems like its not boosting as hard as it should. Again, I wonder if it could be the exhaust leak. I have a BOV and a Manual boost controler (I read now that most of you dont like them, so dont yell)

Any advice/ things to check??

A boost leak and an exhaust leak are two different things.Exhaust leak is easy to check.Let the car idle,put on e-brake.Go to the back of the car with a couple of shop rags.If you have a buddy handy have him get down on his kness by the front of the car.Take the rags and plug the exhaust tip with them for a couple of seconds.If you got an exhaust leak,you will hear it.Basicly how they do it for saftey inspections.The Whoosh is either your turbo or BOV.Pre-turbo exhaust leaks are more like whistles.Boost leaks are found by pressurizing the intake tract.You will need to make an attachment to do this and have a air compressor handy with an adjustable regulator.
