boost dies at 8lbs then sppols back up????

so i just put motor in my 03 wrx.. motor was off an 04 but all bolted up well and in short time installed new clutch and deleted AC after a week i lost 10 kpa VAC and barely had any boost along with a manifol leak. fixed the mani-up pipe gasket that was toast and boost came back nice and smooth. unfotunately i still only read 10 kpa at idle on my gauge (that worked fine with original motor) and at 8 lbs boost the turbo cuts off like a rev limiter does to a motor and then respools at 5lbs its very odd lotsa power then cutoff just like that. any ideas. ive been thru all my hoses and checvked all clampes added 1/4 turns to all with the option no leaks that are large enuff to cause 10lb leak unless its right in my face lol.

Stock BCS setup? Have the pill in the boost line? 8lbs means you're not building past the stock waste gate pressure. Stuck waste gate?

Yes stock boost control but the ecu was protuned I used to see 16 lbs with easy before the motor swap last week and I used my turbo set up on the new motor. What's a pill in the line mean?? Lol. Could my BCS lines be swapped cause that. I kno two go to the turbo and one to the air intake. Anyone happen to have a pix or diagram for that

thats awesome thanx man. but unfortunately mine doesnt look like that ill take a pic n post tomorro but my bcs has 3 ports on one the input side and 2 out. i got the input comes from the air intake and then one of each going to the turbo and the waste on the output side. no restrictor ball or lil yellow dot on either line and one is longer seems to line up with the turbo nipple and the other has a nice bend to go on the waste nipple. this set up ran fine on my original motor.unless i swapped the lines on the silenoid somehow. could i have caused a stuck wastegate another way when i had it or was removing it from my other motor i just took the whole uppipe with it when i swapped
thnak you again for input

What's your mods? Didn't see them on your profile.

Port 3 connects to a high-pressure boost source (there is a vacuum nipple on the turbo compressor outlet). Port 2 connects to the internal wastegate actuator vacuum nipple and Port 1 should be routed back to the intake (where the factory BCS mounts). Remove the factory restrictor pill.

Well I bought my wrx from a dealer cheap last year. Some mods were done so I'm a lol in the dark as the dealership had no clue they just took it in as a trade in. Mods I do kno are catless uppipe down pipe and straight back exhaust. Aem intake, act streetlight flywheel I noticed doing my clutch. Twm shifter. Tein springs tokico shocks not that it matters for the motor. Turbo timer And vac/boost gauge. And there has definitely been tuning done Becuz all the catless applications don't throw a cel even unplugging maf wont throw a code. only cel I've ever got was after my motor completely dropped a rod. and my 03 always boosts smooth 16lbs and takes on most sti I've come up on. I'm gunna take a pic of my BCS later n post but I guess it's been changed ### it looks nothing like the one in that pic. If like to get to a dyno shop to tell me what my tune is but gotta get her boosting right again. All I did is swap the whole longblock kept my accessories and turbo

heres my BCS i assume the left is input which goes to my intake and the other two go to turbo and wastegate respectively by length i never disconnected them from the bcs during motor removal

You probably have the lines in the wrong order. What brand 3 port BCS is that?

This is generic and the BCS is flipped around to see it easier. But, does your vacuum hoses look like this maybe?

oh my bad i did have 2 wrong in the pic something i tried out only gave me 5lbs tho so def wrong. im not sure the brand ill pop it off today and see what it says. but the one output on the left goes to the turbo. then theres 2 outputs on the right side the top one goes to the wastegat the bottm one goes to the airbox. ive tried swaping them around and i dont get much differance one way if i swap the turbo and airbox one gives me less boost and power and the way i normaly have it and the other ways gives me almost 10 lbs then dies like it lost the pressusr than respool again when it goes down to 5lbs on the gauge

Well, the pic is generic. So, it may not be right either. But, if we know the brand we can help further. ;) I'm still wondering if a vacuum line is cracked and leaking air or something.

I'm with kirt. Has to be either a vacuum leak/pinch or something hooked up wrong. Brand would help much though! I wouldnt rule out a bad bcs or wastegate actuator also.

Uselessmark 08-18-2013 07:14 PM

well think i def found the answer. i was diggin and spraying with carb clean. got nothing with that but then for s and g i was gunna take out my turbo inlet hose and check it out well then i notice around the hose clamp on the turbo side was ripp went to poke with screwdrive and the screwdriver slid right thru....... fml well ne inlet hose on order plus searching cragslist for one lol. i imagine that was the problem ### all my other stuf gave me no issue and wasnt altered in the motor swap. hopefully this fixes it. i tried taping it up with elctrical and test drive but now the hole is bigger and car runs like turd. lol ill repost after inlet hose installed

boo-key bear 08-18-2013 07:33 PM

Ive got a oem one off a 06 Ill sell you if it will fit yours.

turmic 08-18-2013 07:51 PM

That'll do it. :D OEM break easy due to dry rot.
