So two weeks ago I bought a 2005 WRX with 41K miles on it. One owner who was a middle aged school teacher who kept her car 100% stock. I figured my odds were pretty good so I bought the car, tonight on my way back from a 200 mile road trip my engine started to knock and by the time I pulled over it sounded like someone put my engine in a blender. So I had it towed to a Subaru dealership and they will look at it on Monday, my question is will my 5 year 60K powertrain warranty cover this? Is there anyting I should know or say to make sure Subaru covers this?
That's what I'm afraid of however the car is 100% stock, the old owner even bought new OEM factory tires. It also was serviced at a Subaru dealership for oil changes it's whole life. Has anyone here had a dealership expereince with a blow engine? Any tips?
well if you dont got the records of them, call the dealer you got the oil changes done at and see if then can give you a copy or call the dealer for you. good luck man.
I tracked down the dealer who had serviced the WRX and they had records of all the oil changes, the previous owner had the oil changed every 3000 miles on the dot. So I called back the dealership and the Service Manager acted disapointed and demanded I fax all the records to him. He then proceeded to tell me that he still needed to take apart the engine to see what caused the damage and only then will he know if Subaru will cover it. So let me recap here....a 100% stock car with doccumented records of an oil change every 3000 miles under factory warranty may still not be covered under warranty.
As it turns out the dealership called me today and said the crank broke and they would be replacing the engine for me under warranty. God help the next person trying to get their WRX reparied under warranty.
No idea, the service manager also couldnt believe it. He said he had never seen this before, I must have the worst luck in the world. On the plus side Subaru is kicking me back $35.00 a day to help me with the cost of a rental car. I thought that was pretty cool of them.
