Being Dumb now its going to cost me!!!

No diagnosis required here I was doing some drifting when I lost 1st and 2nd. Of course it was the first time I did it since someone was talking shi?. I showed him huh. Now I need to find someone in the Seattle area to fix. Does anyone know a good tranny man? Pretty sure its just synchros but while I have it out I am going to upgrade so I dont have the problem again.

Holy crap man. Just does go to show that even the STI tranny isnt bullet proof. Im not saying you didnt know that, and we all know its stronger. What are you going to upgrade to if you dont mind me asking?

Yeah I laugh at those who think the sti tranny is bulletproof. Not sure what I am going to go with yet but I kind of want to base it on the shops around. I dont want to go with ppgs and have some deuschebag put them in improper. But its lookin like some ppgs. This is a blessing though because now wife will let me spend some money on my car again. Going to start pulling it out today after football so I will know more later. New you moved it looks like whats up with that?

I wouldn't mind you going into more detail on what you were doing when it happened. Slick pavement? Bouncing off the limiter? I'm really sorry it happened, but I definitely try to learn from others' mistakes, which I think was some of the reason for your post in the first place.

FYI, there's a 6 speed tranny here in Portland on Craigslist from a 29000 mile donor for an unheard of $1900! I was thinking of buying it just to resell or a just-in-case part. Now that you know what it can and cannot handle, a cheap STi tranny would still be my recommendation.

2004 Subaru STI 6 speed transmission, only 29k miles.

I was doing a few doughnuts and tried shifting like a dumb ass and thats all it took. Dry pavement no rev limiter just whipped it and tried shifting and bam no 1st or 2nd. It will shift into 2nd when stopped but as soon as you add power it pops out and it wont even shift into 1st at all. From the research I have been doing since last night it looks like the 04 and 05 Sti's have weak synchros. Bottom line though I drove it like a deusche and this is what I get. Its funny though because my 02 could handle it and this was literally the 2nd time I did it in this car. I did buy from a repo and it was heavily modded before so who knows how the 1st owner drove it. I knew him and he didn't seem like the kind of guy that would mash on it but maybe he did. Chase you live in Vancouver my first thought was pdx going to try to get a quote from them.

Heh, pdx went under man. RalliTEK FTW. Trust me on this, they rock. What do you think about that tranny down here? I'd be happy to help pick it up, talk to the guy, whatever you need.

Yeah, the gears themselves might be able to take it. But, you can only make a synchro so tough. So, i don't know how much getting tougher gears will help. But, PPG 6 speed gears are supposed to be tougher than 5 speed PPGs. Good luck and sorry to hear about the trans.

Yeah I just was talking to a guy on Nasioc and he was telling me about some of the upgraded synchros. And the whole reason for upgrading gears is if I got it torn apart. I might as well make it so I wont ever have to worry.

Ignore my ignorance. You can at least upgrade the synchros if not them and the gears if you want. So, I'd go past stock strength on sychros. If your going to be in there tinkering around with replacing the beat up sychros.
