Automatic tranny wont shift from park

In my 03 wrx i went outside and it decided not to shift out of park. Its seems like when you dont push on the brake. So i figured that is the problem. i just wonder where I should start with this. is it a fuse, a wire, and if so where would be the best spot to start looking for the trouble?

First off, there is a way of overiding that, so you can drive it. There's a little cover next to the shift lever (smaller than a dime) that you pop open, then push down the button under it to get the trans out of park.

The brake pedal switch is one of a few possible causes. There is also an inhibitor switch in the shift mechanism that can fail, the cable and bushing can bind, the park/neutral safety switch, the mechanism itself etc. Do you diagnosis thoroughly, or you could end up throwing a lot of parts, money and time at it trying to repair. Has anything (liquid) been spilled on or around the shifter ?

The hole with the lever saved my arse when I was at the beach(in my Caliber though)
And the switch at the pedal was my fix, thank god for phones with internet and forums

Ok so new problem. First it was the fuse. But now when I hit the brake the left turn signal light comes on in the dash and the front turn signal light comes on. when i pull the fuse back out it stops. what does this mean?

You have a wiring issue. What did you do lately? (install)
