3rd gear going out?

So a few months back I did the tranny cocktail that really helped alot and smoothed out my shifting and quieted my tranny. However, a few days ago while driving my 3rd gear started grinding again. It had been grinding before the tranny cocktail change, but now its just 3rd gear where as before it was 3rd and 5th gears would grind. I'm thinking I have a syncro problem, be cause the grinding is happening pretty much all the time.....however when driving real slow and casual driving it doesn't do it as much or as bad. Maybe its time to get an upgrade and do a STI 6speed swap!!!

I hope you didn't do the uncle scottys cocktail and did the andrewtech cocktail. Nasioc has a new thread saying uncle scottys is a bad mixture that ends up becoming almost like acidic and can harm the transmission.

I believe its this post that people are referring to...about the scottys being a bad mix.

First off I dont recommend mixing fluids. but if I were you I would try some Subaru Extra S tranny fluid before I went and bought new gears.

Google Fred Beans motorsports and you can get it there

Usually I agree with not mixing fluids, however, the Andrewtech Cocktail seems to be the new rage = a mixture of Redline Shockproof & Motul Gear 300 for your transmission and I think I might try it out at 60K.

Yeah I'm not a big fan of mixing fluids... I would also reccomend Subaru's Extra-S 75W-90 from fredbeansparts.com

I don't think the mix messed anything up....I was having grind issues before I used the cocktail. Now I just think my 3rd gear syncro is jacked up!
