+1 on the uppipe cat. Sounds like that's what may have caused the destruction of the turbo.

VF39 = more mods. STi intercooler, injectors, uppipe, TBE, and a fuel pump for added insurance. Oh, and engine management is a must.

My suggestion, get a catless uppipe and new TD04. Safe for a TBE and a tune. Later get a VF43, 34, or 48. I'd actually suggest staying away from the VF39 now that the VF43 is out. They are essentially the same except for the upgraded wastegate and housing on the VF43.

The VF48 is what is on the 08 STi, the VF43 is on the 08 WRX I believe. If you want to go JDM, do like I did and get the VF34. Ball bearings FTW! It's off the pre 08 JDM STi.

Yeah, i decided on just staying stock for now just for simplicity. I plan on going Cobb stage 2 and i'll see what i want to do from there. Thanks for all the help though guys, it's really appreciated.

Definately buy the $100 TD04, thats a pretty good deal.

Stock UP's cats are known to break apart which will ruin a turbo in a hurry, a brand new stock UP would work, but might as well get an aftermarket catlss pipe if you have to remove the stocker anyways. When you've got it all apart, mgiht as well throw on a downpipe as well, it'll save you time.

That TD04 is available if you need it. No shaft play, seals are good, wastegate is still strong. Only bad thing about it is it has about 110,000 miles on it.

VF39= Turbo back exhaust, sti pinks, upgraded intercooler, walbro FP and EM....quite some money...just go with the td04 from taxi...the screens are stupid filters that subaru realized that they should not have been putting in the first place...their filters attached to banjo bolts somewhere around the turbo that cause a oil backlog...its best just to have them removed...if im not mistaken from 05 up subaru stopped using them.
